The Importance of Art in Qatari Culture
The Qatar International Art Festival (QIAF) has been a transformative event for many artists. It is a space that celebrates cultural diversity. Participating in events like this reaffirms the importance of contemporary art and its ability to bring people together, break down barriers, and inspire change.
The experience of painting live in Qatar and connecting my art with people reminded me that the true power of art lies in its ability to resonate with the audience’s emotions. It was love at first sight.
Each drawing I shared was an invitation to personal reflection and self-discovery.
For this occasion, I decided to create a work in which I used resin to encode the name “Qatar”— from the “Cryptologia” collection—and fuse it with my artistic and philosophical language about the power of rivers and their confluences, which I have been developing since 2009. This creation represents not only the place but also the essence of the emotional connection that art can foster among people. Each line I shared was an invitation to personal reflection and self-discovery.
Journalist Silvia García Domínguez told me that it portrayed Qatar well—a country with happy people who are always striving to grow and move forward.
I turned QATAR into a symbol that carries multiple meanings:
Q: The sun, which represents energy and life
A: the sun’s rays, symbolizing attention and focus
T: Strength—a reminder of the determination needed to thrive
A: The smiles and happiness found in every experience
A: Movement, symbolizing the future and continuous evolution
Thank you—without you, my connection to art wouldn’t be the same.
