Núria Companys on the Cover of the “Reading” Magazine of Diari Segre: A Journey towards authenticity 

ENTRANCE: Núria Companys Castro is a self-taught and multidisciplinary artist from Lleida, promoter of the resilient art movement ‘Reluet’, a way of expressing the adversities faced during life and at the same time as finding one’s vital purpose. His artistic project began from the loss of the forest in the town of Miralpeix, submerged under the water for the construction of the Rialb pant, in 1999. The Companys artistic collection vol·fers a constant dialogue between artist, work and public. Its purpose is that art is converted into an emotional medicine to connect people with their own essence.

In our conversation with Núria we immediately grasp that human feelings and emotions, together with the connection between objects and nature, are key elements in the new way of being and believing.

Inevitably, the origin of your artistic project is linked to loss…

He died on September 15, 2009, coinciding with the death of my father. This loss was added to that of the small town in Miralpeix in 1999, when the new house and the rest of the habitats that make up the town, together with those of Tiurana, la Clua, Basella and Aguilar, are disappearing until the waters of the Rialb pantà, sadly losing their resignation at the end of the last alè. From our house in Miralpeix, Calç Teuler, we import various objects, with an interior door. To take out the meu dol, I will turn on this door, and after the meu will divide it into three parts, I will use it to create my first work: a bunch of filferro flowers gruixut on a whip. The vaig signar with the pseudonym Reluet, which is Teuler llegit backwards. But it will not be the end of 2022, when I will become aware of my artistic path and will decide to pose for my first work. At the end of that moment, he had continued to create, but he had signed his new works and had not yet tried to face the profound meaning of his vital purpose.

The idea of ​​its vital purpose is to promote the artistic movement that anomena art resilient…

A resilient art movement is there that continues endavant, to the end when life has been sacrificed in such a way that you have lost its authenticity. Això is the one that will happen to me when I was little and at 13 years old I will have to abandon the meva llar. This moment will be the trigger for my art project.

Could your artistic work be a social revolution?

The new collection is designed to inspire change, awaken and invite society to a deep reflection that connects directly to its heart. Reluet reawaken this sleepy society, which spends the day connected to the Internet and submerged in the seva work routine, obligated to take care of its mateixa and the seva ment. The pandemic is now going to teach the importance of mental health, of dedicating moments to disconnection and meditation. Let us remember the need to know what is happening in our lives, to stop and say clearly that we are willing to be, or that we are on the path to achieving it. I have omplert a silence similar to my soul, and I will now invite everyone who observes my work to see the mateix.

Therefore, his art has the purpose of helping your mate and also the society.

My artistic project is not only helpful to me, but rather has the vocation to help everyone to discover their authenticity and to trust themselves again. I am going to try more than to trust my mate and to find a professional career that makes me unhappy: I started working in the human resources and finance department of a multinational. Through art, I will be able to express my pain in my soul, renew and understand my vital purpose: to accompany, serve and invest in an emotional journey in which each work invites the public to reflect on their own life. I consider that art is a medicine for the soul.

What can Reluet mean for people going through a pain process?

Each work I create is unique and conveys a different message, adaptable to the needs and vital objectives of people. For example, the sculptures, paintings and illustrations that I create are symbols of hope and inspiration, focused on themes of resilience, self-discovery and the beauty that emerges from everyday experiences to help with emotional and spiritual healing. I believe that, regardless of whoever follows the situation or the path that is common to undertake, each person will discover in the new collection some work that may resonate with them and that will now accompany them in their process of personal growth.

She uses different artistic supports…

I work with illustrations, sculptures, paintings, prints and cryptology. I want to show that art is not just to be observed, but to be felt, lived and breathed. The lines of my drawings and paintings, the geometric shapes and the imperfections of the natural objects that give life to my sculptures are a reflection of my mind, a mirror of my emotions. Through this visual narrative, I seek to recognize and value the human capacity to resist and grow in difficult times. With abstract art as a language, I invite you not to be dragged down by the inertia of everyday life, not to give your days away to the greatest thief of all: the passage of time, as well as to continue exploring the currents of opportunities called challenges, questioning them, transforming what is unknown into knowledge and the uncertain into a path. Ultimately, my goal is to make the public the third element of my art. I am moved to see their smiles when they discover a work of mine and to feel how, under my pseudonym Reluet, the history of my people does not fall into oblivion.

Water is an element that influences their person and their art.

I like to think that we are unique rivers that, when converging with other rivers, give rise to a beautiful harmony. I was born on March 2, 1981 next to a river, and thanks to it I left a thirsty swamp when I understood that that laughing thirteen-year-old girl may have lost the bricks of her home, but never her voice. This voice, channeled in my artistic and philosophical language, continues to flow and transform. I have the essence of the water of a river tattooed invisibly. For this reason, the heart of the Reluet logo, which includes the petals of the lotus flower, symbolizes a river of rediscovery. My art is resilient because it invites us to be reborn emotionally, to listen consciously and to give ourselves permission to feel. It is not reduced to constancy or perseverance, but rather emerges as a deep and transformative process of an imperfect work in constant movement.

What are the singularities of the materials you use?

To begin building my artistic background, I have always found inspiration in inanimate objects, often rescued, as I mentioned above, from my beloved home in Miralpeix. A door, a watering can or even a ham tree. All these elements have been a starting point for deep reflections that have taken shape in my works. And I want to invite you to do the same with the objects closest to people. Each one has a special and unique meaning for us. It is about observing them carefully, discovering the emotions they transmit to us and giving them new meaning. In my case, and as an example, the watering can symbolizes the will to move forward. Being the daughter of a farming couple, I wanted to pay homage to the profession of agriculture by transforming this symbol of irrigation into a tribute to the memory of my grandmother, giving new life to her watering can.

She has exhibited in different places around the world.

Reluet has allowed me to fulfill dreams and reach places I would never have imagined, such as the Louvre in Paris. The last place I visited was the Qatar Art Festival, a space that has opened the doors to new cultures and taught me that only we ourselves set limits, and that we are capable of achieving everything we set our minds to. But, for me, the most important thing is not to go far, but to leave a mark. One of the most special exhibitions I have participated in last year was at the Arnau de Vilanova Hospital in Lleida, where people who really needed to recover were able to contemplate my art and see in it a source of optimism. I remember a man coming to see me and giving me a drawing in which he had portrayed my inner child. This connection with people is what I value.
