My colleagues agreed to help shape the proposal I submitted.

My involvement in this project goes beyond my role as Núria Companys Castro, the lead actress and co-screenwriter who founded the Reluet resilient art movement. I am simply Núria, a creative force who brings a deep personal and emotional connection to the short film’s narrative.

A Personal Connection to History

I bring the central character to life—a woman who, caught between the past and the present, seeks meaning in the waters that were once her home. This story resonates deeply with those who live in an area marked by the traces of their own family and cultural history. In my case, my home, “Cal Teuler,” was located in a village that was submerged by the waters of a marsh in 1999, which gives me an intimate perspective on the uprooting and loss that the short film addresses.

This personal experience not only motivated me to take action, but it also infuses my performance with a unique authenticity and sensitivity. I understand the pain of displacement and the longing for a home that no longer exists, and that understanding is reflected in every scene, transforming the performance into an act of catharsis and celebration.

Commitment to Collective Memory

As a co-screenwriter, I play a key role in shaping the short film’s narrative. My commitment, along with that of the team, is clear: we seek not only to tell an individual story, but also to preserve the shared memories of communities that have been affected by decisions made by others. Through my involvement, I become the voice of those who have been silenced, seeking to honor their experiences and remind the audience of the importance of collective memory.

I firmly believe that art—and cinema in particular—has the power to transform and educate. Through our work on “Memòria sota l’Aigua,” we not only create a visual representation of uprooting, but we also invite reflection on the broader implications of contemporary history: how the decisions of a few can affect the lives of many.

Promoting the Resilient Art Movement

My participation in this project is also part of my work with Reluet, a movement that stems from my personal history and my surroundings, as I explore themes of identity, loss, and resilience.

My holistic artistic approach ensures that “Memòria sota l’Aigua” is not just a film, but a vehicle for change and dialogue that resonates in the hearts of those who watch it.

For me, “Memory Underwater” represents a unique opportunity to amplify the voices that have been submerged beneath the waters of oblivion.

I am the canvas. Today, the great adventure is being the canvas of my own life. A few years ago, if I’d been asked to take on the lead role, I would have hesitated. But today, I laugh at those doubts, just like the title of one of my illustrations says. Because when authenticity is what drives you, there’s no turning back.

All I can tell you is this: “The day it clicks for you is when you say to yourself, ‘If only I’d done that sooner…’ But the time to do it wasn’t sooner—it’s NOW.”

Don’t fool yourself. Move forward, laughing off your doubts with determination and without rushing.

If you don’t try, don’t cry. Because you’ll never know if you can do it until you try.

I gave myself a chance and believed in myself.
