On May 24, 2024, I had the pleasure of participating, alongside M. Victoria Serna—an artist and curator at the Imaginarte Gallery—in the international contemporary art group exhibition “Delios de la Imaginación,” a tribute to Salvador Dalí, held at her gallery in Barcelona. This joint exhibition with fellow artists ran through June 25, 2024.
This exhibition sought to explore how Dalí’s surrealist vision has inspired and left its mark on the work of other contemporary artists.
“Tears do not drown us; they are the abundance of being.”
Salvador Dalí is the great genius of Surrealism. He was born on May 11, 1904, in Figueres, Girona, and went on to become one of the most internationally renowned Spanish painters in history, a master of the Surrealist style, and an icon of contemporary painting thanks to his highly personal and extravagant style.
What similarities does Reluet share with Salvador Dalí?
- To be the creator of a very personal style.
- The goal is to attract public attention.
Dalí exhibited a marked tendency toward narcissism and megalomania.
Núria makes a statement to the capricious world we live in, a world that doesn’t want us to wake up.
- Attribute love.
Dalí attributed his love “for everything that is golden and excessive, his passion for luxury, and his love for Eastern fashion.”
Núria attributes her love “for the hidden beauty found in rediscovering everything that surrounds us.”
- A great loss. A farewell with no return.
Dalí lost his older brother, also named Salvador, to an infectious gastroenteritis.
This had a profound effect on the artist later in life; he eventually suffered a personality crisis, believing that he was a copy of his deceased brother.
Núria lost her home to a flood when she was thirteen.
Just like Salvador Dalí, this episode left a deep impression on me, as I believed I had lost my identity in a swamp when I woke up and realized that they had only taken the bricks—but not my voice, raised under my pseudonym Reluet—which is, in fact, the name of my beloved home, Teuler, in Miralpeix.
